Six Tips to Get Your Blog Started
By Jeremy On Dec 31, 1969

Blog writing is a great way to share information with your friends, meet new people, and exchange ideas. Here are a few tips to get you started.

Write to tell people something informative. No one wants to read daily rants unless they’re really funny. Your posts should be about stuff that people will actually want to read about. Of course, some people visit blogs not for the content but for the wit that the blogger writes his entries with. At the end of the day, you have to have blog writing that is weighty and informative. There is only so much wit you can dazzle your readers with before they look for quality content.

  1. Don’t beat around the bush. Don’t use 40 words when you can just use 10. At the same time, avoid terms like “it was okay” or “it’s good” to describe something because you don’t really describe anything with words like those.
  2. If you seriously want to make money online with your blog, connect to people. Promote your website as much as you can both online and offline. If you are a food blogger, you can join groups like TasteSpotting where food pictures are linked to your site. Aside from increasing traffic, it helps you see the trends in the area your blog specializes in.
  3. Communicate with your audience. Blog writing is not just a personal thing. Setting up a blog puts you in a huge community of people, so make sure that you connect with them. Respond to comments and comment on other people’s blogs. This is how you “make friends” online and encourage people to visit your blog.
  4. Don’t be mean. Negative criticism and rude comments are common in blogosphere. You can simply ignore people who post that or reply politely.
